■ 몽키스의 1966년작이자 통산 2번째 스튜디오 앨범으로, 1967년 빌보드 핫 100 1위를 차지한 <I'm A Believer>를 수록하고 있다.

■ 사실 이 앨범은 몽키스의 데뷔작이 큰 성공을 거둔 이후, 첫번째 전국 투어를 도는 중이었고, 그 사이에 제작자인 돈 커쉬너(Don Kirshner)가 멤버들의 동의도 없이 앨범을 출시해 버리게 된다. 이에 몽키스 멤버들의 불만이 폭발한 것. 이러한 계기로 2번째 앨범까지 보컬부분을 제외하고, 대부분 스튜디오 세션맨으로 레코딩을 했지만, 3번째 앨범부터는 몽키스 멤버들이 직접 연주를 하는 것으로 타협을 보고 사건은 무마되었다고 전해진다.

■ <I'm A Believer>는 당시 신인 작곡가로 활동했었던 닐 다이아몬드(Neil Diamond)의 곡으로, 이 곡이 리드싱글로 채택된데에는 몽키스의 2번째 앨범 신임 프로듀서인 제프 배리(Jeff Barry)의 입김이 어느 정도 작용한 것이라고 한다. 제프 배리는 닐 다이아몬드의 2곡을 포함해서 이 앨범의 7곡에서 프로듀싱을 담당하였다.

■ 앨범은 미국에서만 500만장 이상의 앨범 판매고를 기록하면서 1967년 2월 11일 부터 18주간 빌보드 앨범 차트 정상을 차지하였다.

■ 이 앨범 역시, 이전작품들과 마찬가지로 기존의 영화음악,뮤지컬, 팝송등을 새로이 편곡해서 수록하고 있으며, 리드 싱글인 <Wade In The Water>가 빌보드 핫 100 37위, 2번째 싱글인 <Casino Royale>이 빌보드 핫 100 27위까지를 기록하였다.

■ 앨범은 1967년 6월 17일 부터 1주간 빌보드 앨범 차트 1위를 차지하였으며, 몽키스의 3번째 앨범에 의해 1위 자리를 내주게 된다.

■ 몽키스의 1967년 3번째 스튜디오 앨범으로, 이전 작품들에서의 스튜디오 뮤지션들의 연주가 아닌 대부분의 수록곡에서 몽키스 멤버들을 중심으로 해서 레코딩이 이루어진 실질적인 첫번째 작품으로 기록된다.

■ 2번째 앨범에서의 반란이후, 몽키스 멤버들은 제작자인 돈 커쉬너(Don Kirshner)로 하여금 '음악 자치권'을 인정받게 되었고, 3번째 앨범부터는 프로듀서도 직접 자신들이 선택하였고, 수록곡 역시 14곡 중 7곡이 멤버들이 쓴 곡으로 채워지게 된다.

■ 하지만, 몽키스 멤버들이 3번째 앨범 출시를 위해 레코딩에 전념하고 있던 사이, 돈 커쉬너는 새 앨범에 수록 예정이었던 <A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You>를 멤버들 동의없이 또 다시 싱글로 발매해 버리게 된다. 이에 몽키스 멤버들과 돈 커쉬너의 갈등은 정점에 도달하게 되고, '스크린 젬스' 이사회는 돈 커쉬너를 해임하는 것으로 갈등은 종결짓게 된다.

■ 앨범에서 멤버들이 직접 선택한 프로듀서는 당시 <Happy Together>라는 큰 히트곡을 터트리며 승승장구하던 터틀스(The Turtles)의 리더인 칩 더글라스(Chip Douglas)였다. 칩 더글라스는 몽키스의 이런 제안에 고민이 많았던 것으로 알려졌으며, 몽키스의 기타리스트인 마이클 네스미스(Michael Nesmith)의 끈질긴 설득으로 수락을 했다고 전해진다. 

■ 이러한 여러 우여곡절 끝에 탄생한 앨범이지만, 상업적으로 이전작들에 비해 많이 못미치는 결과를 낳게 된다. 2곡의 싱글로 채택되었던 <Randy Scouse Git>과 <Forget That Girl>은 차트 100위권내에도 진입하지 못했으며, 앨범도 1967년 6월 24일 부터 1주간 빌보드 앨범 차트 1위에 머물렀다가 비틀즈에게 선두자리를 내주게 된다.
