■ 슈프림스는 다이애나 로스를 중심으로 한 3인조 보컬 그룹으로, 1962년에 모타운 레코드에서 데뷔하여 해체한 1976까지 수많은 히트곡을 배출한 전설적인 그룹.

■ 1967년에 출시된 [Diana Ross & the Supremes: Greatest Hits]는 슈프림스에게는 첫 베스트 앨범으로 기록되며, 1964년부터 1967년까지의 싱글로 출시 된 히트곡들이 총망라 되어있다. 이중 빌보드 핫 100 1위곡은 총 9곡이 된다.

■ 이 즈음 베스트 앨범이 출시된 이유는 늘 다이애나 로스에 가려져 있던 플로렌스 발라드(Florence Ballard)가 탈퇴의사를 밝혔기 때문이며, 그녀를 대신해서 1968년작 [Reflections]부터는 '패티 라벨 앤 블루벨스(Patti LaBelle & the Bluebelles) 출신의 신디 버드송(Cindy Birdsong)이 합류하게 된다.

■ 앨범은 1967년 10월 28일 부터 5주간 빌보드 앨범 차트 1위에 올랐다가 몽키스(The Monkees)의 4번째 앨범 [Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.]에 자리를 내어 주었다.

■ 몽키스의 1967년 4번째 스튜디오 앨범으로, 그들이 지금까지 발표한 앨범들 중에서는 가장 록적인 색채가 짙은 앨범이며, 몇몇곡에서는 당시 시대의 흐름이었던 싸이키델릭 록도 받아들이는 등 다양한 실험이 시도되고 있는 앨범.

3번째 앨범에서는 세션맨 투입을 최소화하고 가능한 한 멤버들만으로 레코딩을 진행하였으나, 본 작에서는 다시 곡마다의 특성에 맞게 다양한 스튜디오 뮤지션들을 기용하고 있고, 자작곡의 비중도 전작에 비해 크게 감소되었다.

■ 앨범의 선행 싱글은 캐롤 킹(Carole King)과 제리 고핀(Gerry Goffin)부부의 곡이 채택되었으며, 1967년 빌보드 핫 100 3위까지를 기록하였다.

■ 앨범의 수록곡 중 <Daily Nightly>와 <Star Collector>에서 팝 역사상 처음으로 무그 신디사이저가 사용되었던 것으로 기록된다. 

■ 앨범은 당시 미국에서만 약 200만장에 육박하는 앨범 판매고를 기록하게 되면서, 1967년 12월 2일 부터 5주간 빌보드 앨범 차트 1위에 올랐다.
